Central Region Chiefs Offer 3,000 Acres to Attract Investors

Traditional authorities in the Central Region are stepping up efforts to transform the area into Ghana’s next major agricultural investment hub, positioning it as a leading destination for agribusiness and agro-processing ventures.

Nana Kumasah Krampah II, Omankrado of Gomoa Asempanyin and Amankra-Kumahene of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Area, has revealed that the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council has set aside 3,000 acres of land to attract both local and foreign investors.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Nana Krampah II said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy by the region’s traditional leaders to promote sustainable agricultural partnerships that prioritize shared growth and community benefits.

He explained that the Central Region’s fertile soils, favourable climate, and diverse crop production potential position it competitively among Ghana’s agricultural zones. “Our weather supports year-round production with average temperatures of 24–25°C, suitable for both food and cash crops,” he said.

The Omankrado highlighted opportunities in maize, cassava, plantain, yam, and pineapple production, alongside emerging ventures in vegetable and livestock farming, including poultry, goat, snail, and sheep rearing.

According to him, the traditional authorities’ approach aligns with former President John Dramani Mahama’s call for development partners to act as collaborative investors rather than donors in Ghana’s agricultural transformation.

Nana Krampah II further cited ongoing collaborations with GIZ’s Market Oriented Agriculture Programme (MOAP), World Vision Ghana, and institutional support from the University of Cape Coast and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA). These, he said, are enhancing investor confidence in the region.

“The Central Region benefits from national investment programmes such as the Ghana Agriculture Sector Investment Programme (GASIP) and the Ghana Commercial Agriculture Project (GCAP), which have already drawn interest from companies like Precise Agro Processing in Ekumfi Asokwa,” he disclosed.

He added that ongoing infrastructure improvements — including better roads, electricity, and telecommunications — are creating an enabling environment for agribusinesses to thrive.

“As traditional leaders, we see ourselves as facilitators of development. We invite investors to partner with our communities to create jobs, add value, and boost livelihoods,” he emphasized.

Nana Krampah II’s call underscores a growing movement among traditional authorities in Ghana to directly participate in national economic growth by leveraging communal resources and fostering sustainable private-sector partnerships.
