Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, has pledged closer collaboration with traditional authorities in the Tongu area as he received leaders of the Tongu Chiefs Union Council to discuss critical development challenges facing their communities.
The chiefs paid a courtesy call on Mr Gunu at the Regional Residency in Ho, using the meeting to both congratulate him on his appointment and outline priority needs in the Tongu traditional area. The delegation was led by the President of the Council, Togbega Kodzi Zoga II.
During the engagement, Togbega Kodzi Zoga II drew attention to deteriorating road networks, inadequate access to potable water and limited health infrastructure, describing them as issues that continue to hinder social and economic progress in the area. He also proposed the conversion of the E-Block facility initiated under former President John Dramani Mahama into a Tongu Training College to strengthen skills development and human capital.
Mr Gunu expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the chiefs for their role in maintaining peace and promoting development. He assured them of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council’s readiness to work with traditional leaders and relevant state institutions to address the concerns raised.
The Regional Minister further highlighted ongoing government interventions, including the Volta Economic Corridor Project under the 24-Hour Economy policy and the expansion of irrigation-based agriculture, which he said are expected to improve livelihoods, create jobs and stimulate economic growth across the Tongu area and the wider Volta Region.
