The Electoral Commission has begun formal steps to fill the vacant Ayawaso East parliamentary seat, following the passing of the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Naser Toure.
As part of the process, the Commission has announced plans for a by-election, which will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, allowing constituents to elect a new representative to Parliament.
In a statement issued on January 16, 2026, and signed by the EC’s Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the Commission said it has opened the nomination window for aspiring candidates. Nomination forms will be accepted at the Commission’s Ayawaso East Municipal Office in North Ridge from Monday, February 9, to Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
The Commission indicated that submissions will be received daily between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, and again from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., as part of efforts to ensure a smooth and orderly electoral process in the constituency.
