The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has mounted strong pressure on Parliament to investigate three major health facilities in Accra over the alleged denial of emergency care to a hit-and-run victim, a situation said to have resulted in the death of Charles Amissah.
Addressing the House, Afenyo-Markin called on the Speaker of Parliament, **Alban Bagbin**, to direct the Health Committee to immediately summon the management of **Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital**, **Police Hospital**, and **Greater Accra Regional Hospital**.
According to the Effutu MP, Parliament cannot treat the matter lightly, stressing that transparency and accountability must prevail in the wake of the February 6, 2026 incident.
He urged the Health Committee to demand duty rosters and bed occupancy records for the night in question to establish whether medical personnel failed in their responsibilities. He further insisted that the committee must determine whether the 2018 Ghana Health Service directive on emergency care was breached.
“If misconduct is established, sanctions must follow; if negligence is proven, prosecution must follow,” he declared, emphasizing that any wrongdoing must attract appropriate consequences to deter future occurrences.
Beyond the hospitals, Afenyo-Markin also pressed the **Ghana Police Service** to intensify efforts to identify and arrest the driver responsible for the hit-and-run incident.
He called on the police to deploy every available investigative and intelligence resource to ensure the suspect is brought to justice, noting that both the medical response and the criminal aspect of the case must be fully addressed.
