Baba Jamal, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, has been officially cleared to contest the upcoming by-election, bolstering his campaign momentum ahead of Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The decision comes after a committee appointed by the NDC investigated allegations of vote buying, which had prompted calls by some party MPs to cancel the constituency’s primary and disqualify candidates. The committee’s findings vindicated Baba Jamal, allowing him to remain in the race.
Speaking on Channel One News, Baba Alhaji Nuhu Khalid, campaign manager for Baba Jamal, described the recent calls for cancellation as “hurtful” but expressed confidence in the candidate’s standing within the party. He emphasized that Baba Jamal has maintained strong, cordial relationships with NDC members in Parliament and has played a pivotal role in past by-elections.
“The investigation cleared Baba Jamal, and we are moving forward with full confidence. His record speaks for itself,” Mr. Khalid said, highlighting the candidate’s long-standing contributions to party efforts and constituency development.
Meanwhile, a new poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows Baba Jamal leading the contest, underscoring his strong support base. The survey, conducted between February 28 and March 1 among 972 voters in Ayawaso East, positions him ahead of his main challenger, Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
With the by-election just days away, Baba Jamal’s campaign is focusing on voter engagement and consolidating support, positioning him as a frontrunner in one of Ghana’s closely watched parliamentary contests.
