The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is introducing a training and eligibility-screening process for prospective parliamentary candidates ahead of the 2028 general elections, as part of efforts to strengthen its candidate-selection process.
The party will open an online registration portal from November 1 to 10, 2026, for interested persons to formally declare their intention to contest parliamentary seats on its ticket.
General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong announced the arrangement at a press conference, explaining that applicants would undergo training and capacity-building programmes to prepare them for the responsibilities of serving in Parliament.
He said the initiative was intended to ensure that prospective candidates understood the demands of parliamentary representation before being selected to contest on the party’s ticket.
“The rationale behind this exercise is to make sure that people who are aspiring to be selected as our parliamentary candidates are taken through a very vigorous training and capacity-building exercise,” he said.
Mr Kodua added that the party would conduct eligibility checks to determine whether applicants satisfied the requirements of the NPP constitution and relevant Ghanaian laws.
He said the screening formed part of measures to promote a free, fair and transparent process in selecting the party’s parliamentary candidates.
“The party also will check our prospective parliamentary candidates on whether or not, per our constitution, they indeed qualify to stand as or to be nominated as a parliamentary candidate,” he stated.
Prospective applicants will be required to pay an application fee of GH¢5,000 when submitting their details through the online portal.
The November registration exercise marks an early stage in the NPP’s preparations to identify, assess and select candidates to represent the party in the 2028 parliamentary elections.
