Ghana’s national women’s team, the Black Queens, are maintaining focus on competition despite regional tensions in the Middle East that have temporarily disrupted their training schedule in the United Arab Emirates.
The squad is currently participating in the Pink Ladies Cup and is preparing for its next fixture against Russia, subject to prevailing security conditions.
The team began the tournament strongly with a commanding 4-0 victory over Hong Kong and views the competition as crucial preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
According to team officials, security concerns initially restricted access to the training pitch. However, the players adjusted swiftly, switching to indoor gym sessions to maintain fitness levels while awaiting clearance to resume full outdoor training.
Ghana’s diplomatic presence in the UAE has been actively engaged. Officials from Ghana’s Consulate visited the team to provide assurances of safety and reaffirm government support. The team’s management has also remained in close contact with tournament organisers to monitor developments.
Although smoke was reportedly visible across parts of the skyline a day earlier, local conditions have since stabilised, with daily activities returning to near normal. This has helped ease concerns within the camp.
Travel plans, however, remain flexible. The team’s departure will depend on the status of regional airspace. Should conditions permit before their final match against Tanzania, an early exit remains an option. Otherwise, the Black Queens will complete the tournament and depart once it is deemed safe.
For now, the focus remains firmly on football, as the Queens balance competitive ambitions with caution in an evolving security environment.
