Residents of the Assin Fosu Municipality in the Central Region are reeling after two separate deaths, both suspected to be suicides, were reported within a short span of time.
The deceased have been identified as Emmanuel Quainoo, 38, a basic school teacher at Faith Academy, and Ato Kwamena, 43, a farmer from Assin Betinsinso.
Mr. Quainoo had only recently resumed work after a period of absence. According to sources, he left the school around midday, informing colleagues that he was going to seek medical attention. He was later discovered unresponsive in his room at Assin Fosu. His body has since been deposited at the morgue pending further investigations.
In a separate incident, Mr. Kwamena is alleged to have shot himself. Family members say he contacted a relative shortly after the act, requesting urgent assistance. He was rushed to a nearby health facility but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Both incidents have been reported to the police, who have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The back-to-back tragedies have sparked concern among residents, with many calling for increased attention to mental health awareness and support systems within the municipality.
