Pupils and teachers of Mafi Kumikpo-Dekpo R/C Basic School in the Central Tongu District now have a renewed sense of hope following the completion of a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities by education-focused NGO, Pencils of Promise.
The project is expected to significantly improve teaching and learning conditions at the school, long regarded as one of the district’s most under-resourced institutions.
Speaking at the commissioning, Mr Freeman Gobah, Country Director of Pencils of Promise, said the intervention aligns with the organisation’s mission to expand access to quality education by providing safe and supportive learning environments. He encouraged school authorities to maintain the facility properly, including a rainwater harvesting system installed to improve water access, and indicated that efforts were underway to connect the school to the national water supply.
The Member of Parliament for Central Tongu, Gabby Alexander Hottordze, lauded the NGO for complementing government’s efforts to improve educational infrastructure. He pledged continued support for initiatives that promote development, create jobs, and enhance the well-being of constituents.
Also addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive for Central Tongu, Addison Dodzi Mornyuie, announced plans to supply 2,000 pieces of furniture to schools across the district, including Mafi Kumikpo-Dekpo R/C Basic School, to further strengthen educational delivery.
Mr Sampson Akpo, Headteacher of the school, expressed gratitude for the intervention and assured stakeholders that the new facilities would be carefully maintained to benefit both present and future pupils.
The new infrastructure marks a significant step toward improving learning outcomes and creating a more conducive educational environment in the community.
