The Ghana Armed Forces is exploring a strategic partnership with Agri-Impact Group to boost local food production and reduce the country’s heavy dependence on imported food.
As part of the move, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, visited a 120-acre greenhouse enclave at Dawhenya operated by Fresh Logistics Limited, a subsidiary of Agri-Impact Group.
The visit allowed the military delegation, including senior officers from the Special Projects Committee under the Office of the CDS, to observe modern vegetable production methods and post-harvest handling practices being used at the facility.
Lt. Gen. Agyapong said the Armed Forces is actively seeking partnerships that can help reduce Ghana’s national food import bill while strengthening local agricultural production.
“One of my first tasks from the late Minister of Defence, Dr. Omane Boamah, was to find ways to reduce our national food bill. We asked ourselves who we could partner with, and we are fortunate to have found Agri-Impact,” he stated.
He expressed confidence that stronger collaboration between institutions could significantly cut food imports and strengthen the country’s food security.
Group CEO of Agri-Impact, Dr. (h.c.) Daniel Fahene Acquaye, welcomed the initiative and pledged the company’s full support for the partnership with the Armed Forces.
“We are excited about the potential of this partnership. Agri-Impact is ready to bring all our resources, networks, and expertise to support the Armed Forces and the country,” he said.
Dr. Acquaye also highlighted the role of key partners including the Mastercard Foundation, Ghana EXIM Bank, and the Danish and Spanish Embassies in advancing the company’s agricultural initiatives.
He called for stronger collaboration between public and private institutions to expand greenhouse farming and strengthen agricultural value chains nationwide.
Through support from Ghana EXIM Bank, Agri-Impact is implementing the Youth in Greenhouse Enterprise Project (YUGEP), an initiative designed to create jobs for young entrepreneurs while boosting commercial vegetable production and reducing food imports.
The broader Agri-Impact Group operates across Africa and the Caribbean through its subsidiaries—Agri-Impact Limited, Fresh Logistics Limited, and ASNAPP—and continues to drive programmes aimed at youth employment, agribusiness development, and national food security.
The company is also involved in initiatives such as the HAPPY Programme, implemented in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, which aims to create more than 326,000 jobs for young people in key agricultural value chains including poultry, rice, tomatoes, and soybeans.
