The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) has clarified misinformation circulating on social media suggesting that land near the Osu Cemetery has been converted into a refuse dump. The Assembly described the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Unit, KoKMA explained that the viral video shows a temporary waste transfer point, not a landfill. At the site, mini refuse trucks offload waste into municipal skip containers before it is transported to designated landfill facilities.
The Assembly noted that occasional delays in transporting waste from the transfer point may have contributed to the misconception seen in the video. “The location shown in the video is not a refuse dump. It is a temporary waste transfer point where mini refuse trucks offload waste into municipal skip containers for onward transportation to the designated landfill site,” the statement said.
KoKMA also highlighted that the facility was inherited from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) when the municipality was created and emphasized that efforts are ongoing to upgrade and beautify the site into a modern waste transfer station that meets improved environmental and operational standards.
The Assembly assured residents of its continued commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment through 24-hour sanitation services, decongestion, and security patrols. Residents were encouraged to rely on official communication channels for accurate information and to avoid sharing unverified content.
