Concerns Raised Over Investor Confidence Amid McDan Business Dispute

Growing concerns about investor confidence in Ghana have been highlighted by the Ada Youth Forum for Development following recent developments involving businesses linked to Mr Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan.

At a press conference held at the McDan Sports Complex in Sege, the group warned that actions perceived to undermine local entrepreneurs could have wider implications for Ghana’s investment climate and economic growth.

Speaking on behalf of the forum, Mr Ernest Dugbanor Kugblenu, Public Relations Officer, stressed that Ghanaian investors play a crucial role in job creation and national development and must be treated fairly to sustain confidence in the economy.

“Ghanaian entrepreneurs who invest in key sectors and create employment opportunities should be protected,” he said, adding that uncertainty surrounding business operations could discourage both local and foreign investment.

The forum pointed to a number of recent incidents, including the reported invasion of Electrochem Ghana Limited’s salt mining site at the Ada Songor Lagoon and the demolition of warehouses linked to the McDan Group near the Kotoka International Airport. It also cited concerns about the operations of McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal.

According to the group, such developments raise questions about the consistency and security of business agreements in Ghana. They emphasised that contracts and licences granted under the law should be respected regardless of changes in political administration.

“Today it is McDan. Tomorrow it could be any Ghanaian entrepreneur,” Mr Kugblenu cautioned, noting that the perception of instability could deter long-term investment.

The forum further highlighted the economic importance of the Ada Songor Lagoon project, describing it as a key initiative with the potential to generate employment and drive development in the Ada area.

As part of its recommendations, the group called for measures to protect local businesses, including the reopening of Terminal One at Kotoka International Airport for McDan Aviation’s operations and compensation for alleged damages to company properties.

The concerns raised reflect a broader debate about how Ghana balances regulation, accountability, and the need to create a stable and supportive environment for private sector growth.
