Renowned Ghanaian visual artist Ibrahim Mahama has made it clear that his ongoing pursuit of action over an alleged assault by police officers is motivated by a quest for justice rather than financial gain.
Mahama’s comments came after a meeting with the Police Management Board (POMAB) on Thursday, March 26, 2026, as part of an investigation into claims involving members of the Inspector General of Police’s Special Task Force, known as the “Black Maria.”
Speaking to the media, Mahama stressed that his focus is on transparency and accountability, aiming to ensure the facts of the incident are fully understood and that responsible parties are held to account.
“No, we are not looking for compensation. There is no way we are looking for money. Obviously, I don’t need that. It’s not about that. It’s more just about justice,” he said.
The artist further highlighted the broader significance of seeking justice in such cases, noting that it is essential for public confidence in Ghana’s institutions. “So that when other people are elsewhere, and things like this happen, at least they are assured that in the country they live in, their matter will be taken seriously and there will be some kind of justice,” he explained.
Mahama’s approach underscores the importance of ensuring that democratic principles are upheld, and that citizens can trust that their grievances will be addressed impartially by the authorities.
