Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has shed light on past political tensions with her former partner, Kennedy Agyapong, revealing that he actively campaigned against her during her first parliamentary primary in 2007, despite her being pregnant with his child at the time.
Speaking in an interview on Movement TV on March 19, 2025, Adwoa Safo addressed whether she would support Kennedy Agyapong’s bid for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership. She firmly stated that her loyalty lies with the party’s current flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and that personal relationships do not influence her political decisions.
“I have made my political decision, and I believe Dr. Bawumia deserves a second chance,” she said.
She recounted that during the 2007 NPP primaries, Agyapong campaigned for Professor Mike Oquaye, opposing her candidacy. However, she acknowledged that he later supported her during her second term before once again backing Oquaye Jnr. in a later contest.
Adwoa Safo emphasized that political choices are individual decisions and should not be swayed by personal ties. Her comments highlight the deep-seated political dynamics that have played out over the years between key figures in the NPP.
Despite winning previous elections, Adwoa Safo lost her bid for re-election in the 2024 NPP primaries to Mike Oquaye Jnr., who subsequently lost the Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary seat to the NDC candidate in the general elections.
