A renewed call for stronger child welfare and protection has been made ahead of the Easter celebrations, with emphasis on collective responsibility in safeguarding the future of vulnerable children.
Reverend Ms Justine Seyram Dzakodzo, Pastor of the E.P. Church, Elorm Parish in Kadjebi, Oti Region, urged communities, institutions, and families to prioritise the wellbeing of children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
In a pre-Easter message to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), she stressed that ensuring children grow in safe, nurturing environments is essential for building a responsible and productive society. According to her, the development of children goes beyond basic care and requires deliberate efforts to provide protection, guidance, and opportunities for growth.
Rev. Ms Dzakodzo highlighted proper nutrition as a critical factor in child development, noting that access to healthy food directly influences both cognitive ability and physical health. She called on parents and guardians to pay closer attention to the dietary needs of children to support their overall development.
She also raised concerns about the harmful effects of neglect, violence, and exploitation, warning that such conditions can undermine children’s potential and limit their future prospects. She therefore encouraged stakeholders, including faith-based organisations and government agencies, to intensify measures aimed at protecting children’s rights.
The Reverend Minister, who also serves as Treasurer of the Kadjebi District Local Council of Churches, appealed to the public to use the Easter season as a time for reflection and action. She urged individuals to extend compassion and practical support to vulnerable groups, especially children in need.
She noted that building an inclusive and prosperous society begins with how well it cares for its youngest and most vulnerable members, adding that acts of love and kindness can significantly impact their lives and future opportunities.
