Rising fuel prices in Ghana have prompted urgent government action, with John Dramani Mahama convening an emergency cabinet meeting to explore ways of easing the burden on citizens.
Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum, the President indicated that the meeting would focus on reviewing components of the petroleum pricing structure to identify areas where adjustments could help stabilise costs.
The move comes as global tensions in the Middle East continue to drive up crude oil prices, with local fuel prices already seeing significant increases in early April.
President Mahama assured the public that while the situation remains challenging, the government is committed to implementing measures to cushion the impact and maintain economic stability.
He also commended transport operators for holding off on fare increases despite rising fuel costs, noting that their restraint has helped prevent additional pressure on commuters.
The planned cabinet deliberations are expected to examine practical interventions, particularly within pricing margins, as authorities seek short-term relief while monitoring developments in the global energy market.
The President expressed optimism that the economy would withstand the external shocks, even as efforts intensify to protect consumers from further increases in the cost of living.
