The New Patriotic Party is raising concerns over what it sees as a shift in the ruling party’s stance on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.
Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed has criticised lawmakers from the National Democratic Congress, accusing them of losing momentum on the proposed legislation since assuming power.
According to him, several NDC Members of Parliament who were previously vocal advocates of the bill while in opposition have not demonstrated the same urgency under the current administration led by President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, Haruna Mohammed contrasted the NDC’s position with that of John Ntim Fordjour, whom he praised for maintaining a consistent stance on the issue across different political administrations.
He argued that the ruling party must match its earlier rhetoric with action, urging its leadership to prioritise the bill and ensure it is brought before Parliament for consideration.
The remarks add to ongoing political debate over the future of the controversial legislation, with pressure mounting on the government to clarify its position and follow through on previous commitments.
