The Council of State Member for the Western Region, Dr Maxwell Boakye, has assured landowners, farmers and developers affected by the Elubo–Agona-Nkwanta stretch of the Abidjan–Lagos Corridor Road Project that they will receive full compensation before construction begins.
He gave the assurance when a delegation from the Coalition of Lots 1 Abidjan–Lagos Corridor Road affected persons, covering the Elubo–Agona-Nkwanta ECOWAS Road Project, presented a petition to him at Atuabo during his familiarisation tour of the Western Region.
Dr Boakye urged affected persons to channel their grievances through the appropriate constitutional and administrative processes, encouraging them to submit their petition directly to President John Dramani Mahama for redress.
He commended the Coalition for engaging him through dialogue rather than protests or press conferences, describing their approach as respectful and constructive.
“I thank you for the manner in which you have handled your concerns. I will ensure your petition reaches the President for the necessary action,” he assured.
The petition was presented by Mr Paul Kodwo Kwaw, Secretary of the Coalition, who said the group had already submitted formal complaints to the Ministry of Roads and Highways and copied other relevant state institutions.
According to him, the affected persons are demanding the release of property and crop valuation reports as well as a clear schedule for compensation payments under the road project.
Mr Kwaw explained that many farmers and landowners were in a difficult situation, as they had been instructed to stop further development on their lands while waiting for compensation arrangements to be finalised.
He therefore appealed to the Council of State Member to intervene and impress upon the President to urgently address their concerns to prevent further hardship.
Dr Boakye, in response, reiterated his commitment to forwarding the petition to the Presidency and assured the Coalition that their concerns would be given due attention.
He added that the government remained committed to ensuring fair and timely compensation for all persons affected by the strategic Abidjan–Lagos Corridor Road Project.
