A new political pressure group, the BASE Movement, is prioritising nationwide organisation and consolidation before selecting a flagbearer, according to its leaders.
Speaking in an interview, Lawrence Anyetei Adjei explained that the movement has spent the past few months uniting various political groupings that share a common vision for change.
He noted that while many of the group members previously supported Kennedy Agyapong, the movement has not yet formally approached him to lead.
Instead, the focus remains on building a solid foundation across the country before making any leadership decisions.
“We are concentrating on putting the right structures in place first. Once we reach a certain level of organisation, we will then engage a preferred candidate,” he said.
The BASE Movement was officially launched in Accra on April 20, 2026, drawing supporters who gathered in large numbers to signal the group’s emergence on the political scene.
Currently operating with a nine-member national committee and coordinators in several regions, the movement says it is working steadily to expand its footprint, with plans to announce formal regional leadership in due course.
Leaders of the group believe that this methodical approach will position the BASE Movement as a viable third political force ahead of Ghana’s 2028 general elections.
