President John Dramani Mahama is expected to lead the sod-cutting ceremony for five major infrastructure projects at Keta Senior High Technical School on Friday, May 15, following a rescheduling by the Keta Municipal Assembly and Ghana Education Trust Fund.
The ceremony, which was initially scheduled for April 29, was postponed after the President’s emergency visit to Fuveme, a community badly affected by tidal wave destruction.
According to Mr Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the National Democratic Congress in Keta, the projects are expected to significantly transform infrastructure at the school and improve academic conditions for students.
The planned developments include a multipurpose assembly hall, a modern dining hall with a kitchen, a fully equipped two-storey science laboratory, a three-storey 18-unit classroom block, and a steel bridge.
Officials say the new assembly hall will provide space for academic events, cultural programmes and extracurricular activities, while the dining facility will improve meal services for students.
The science laboratory is expected to strengthen practical learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, while the classroom block will help reduce congestion caused by rising student enrolment.
In addition to the school projects, authorities are also expected to cut sod for road construction works and a steel bridge linking Atiavi, Tsiame and Abor to improve transportation and economic activity in the municipality.
The event is expected to attract key stakeholders including Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, Keta MP Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Municipal Chief Executive Wisdom Seade, traditional leaders and residents.
