Africa Catalyzing Action for Nutrition has launched a continent-wide campaign aimed at promoting clean water, sanitation, environmental sustainability, and healthy living across Africa.
The campaign, launched to mark Africa Day 2026, is themed “Our Water, Our Environment, Our Responsibility” and aligns with the African Union’s focus on sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems under Agenda 2063.
Speaking on the initiative, Francis Bruno Zotor said the campaign sought to draw attention to the strong connection between water, sanitation, nutrition, food systems, and public health.
According to him, achieving sustainable development in Africa requires both individual and collective responsibility, especially in promoting healthy lifestyles and protecting the environment.
Prof. Zotor noted that AfriCAN’s “Good Nutrition Starts with Me” youth initiative was already empowering young people and media practitioners in Ghana, Cameroon, and The Gambia to champion nutrition, hygiene, and environmental cleanliness within their communities.
As part of the campaign, AfriCAN plans to undertake community clean-up exercises, school outreach programmes, advocacy discussions on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), home gardening initiatives, and digital awareness campaigns.
Nana Kwame Addi Bekoe called on the public, particularly the youth, to actively support the campaign by promoting hygiene, healthy diets, sanitation, and environmental cleanliness in their homes, schools, and workplaces.
He explained that although the campaign officially began on May 25, activities would continue until December 2026 as part of efforts to improve nutrition and environmental sustainability across the continent.
