Residents of Nortigokope in the Agotime-Ziope Constituency have renewed calls for electricity after years without connection to the national grid.
The latest appeal follows an open letter addressed to Charles Agbeve by Felix Abusah, who expressed concern over the continued absence of power supply in the community.
Mr Abusah said despite repeated assurances over the years, residents were yet to see any progress toward electrification, a situation he noted continued to affect education, healthcare, businesses, security, and overall development.
“Electricity is not a luxury; it is a basic necessity for development, education, healthcare, security and economic growth,” portions of the letter stated.
He urged the MP to work with the Electricity Company of Ghana and other state agencies to facilitate the extension of electricity to the community.
Responding to the concerns, Mr Agbeve acknowledged that Nortigokope-Ziope and several nearby communities, including Zomelokope, Tugukope, Selorm Farms, Gbafakope, Awuyekope and Hododuikope, had never been connected to electricity.
According to him, the affected communities had been captured under the Self-Help Electrification Programme (SHEP IV), expected to be implemented through government’s “Big Push” initiative.
The MP assured residents that updates would be provided on the project’s implementation and pledged to work toward connecting all communities in the constituency to the national grid.
The issue has triggered discussions among residents and stakeholders, with many expressing hope that the communities would soon benefit from rural electrification projects.
