Former WAFA SC midfielder Augustine Boakye has received a major boost in his international career after being named in Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations, following impressive performances for French side Saint-Étienne.
Boakye, who recently earned his first senior national team call-up for a friendly against Mexico, was unable to join the squad at the time due to club commitments as Saint-Étienne pushed through a crucial Ligue 2 promotion playoff campaign.
His consistent form in France has now earned him renewed recognition from Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, who has included him in a 28-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming friendly against Wales on June 2, 2026, as part of the team’s World Cup build-up.
The squad also features several established internationals and key performers, including Thomas Partey, Iñaki Williams, Alidu Seidu, Antoine Semenyo, Fatawu Issahaku, Jerome Opoku, Gideon Mensah, and Alexander Djiku, among others.
Boakye’s inclusion is seen as a reward for his growing influence in European football and adds fresh competition to Ghana’s midfield options as preparations intensify for the global tournament.
