The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned parents, candidates and the general public against a fraudulent notice circulating on social media claiming that the 2026 school selection exercise for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates has commenced.
In a statement issued on June 14, the Service described the widely shared announcement as false and urged stakeholders to disregard it entirely.
According to GES, the fake notice alleged that candidates were required to select and submit five preferred schools beginning June 15, 2026, as part of the placement process. The publication also claimed there was no deadline for submissions and directed users to an unofficial WhatsApp support line for assistance.
The Service stressed that it had not announced the commencement of the 2026 school selection exercise and clarified that the purported communication did not originate from any authorised GES source.
GES warned that engaging with individuals behind the fake announcement or sharing personal information through unofficial channels could expose candidates and parents to fraud and other forms of exploitation.
The Service therefore advised the public to verify all education-related information before acting on it and to rely solely on official government and education sector communication platforms for updates.
“Any information concerning the 2026 school selection and placement process will be communicated through recognised and authorised channels,” the statement indicated.
The caution comes amid increasing concerns over the spread of misinformation targeting students and parents during key stages of the academic calendar.
GES reiterated its commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible and well-coordinated school placement process and assured stakeholders that official announcements regarding the school selection exercise would be made in due course.
Parents, guardians, teachers and candidates have therefore been urged to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to misinformation circulated through unofficial sources.
