The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, has resigned from his position, effective July 31, 2026.
The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during the Government Accountability Series held on Monday, June 15, 2026.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also disclosed that the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired from office.
According to the Government Spokesperson, Dr. Bossman Asare, in his resignation letter, indicated that he was stepping down from the Electoral Commission to return to academia and continue his professional career at the University of Ghana.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated that Dr. Asare expressed gratitude to the President and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve the nation through the Electoral Commission.
He noted that the government has already initiated processes to fill the vacancies created by the departure of the two senior EC officials.
According to him, a nominee has already been submitted to the Council of State for consideration as part of the replacement process.
He explained that once the Council of State concludes its review, an official announcement will be made regarding the successor to Samuel Tettey. A separate process will subsequently be undertaken to appoint a replacement for Dr. Bossman Asare.
The resignations mark a significant transition within the Electoral Commission’s leadership, with both officials having played key roles in the administration and management of Ghana’s electoral processes over the years.
The Electoral Commission is expected to provide further details on the transition arrangements and succession process in the coming weeks.
The developments come as the Commission continues its mandate of managing the country’s electoral affairs and preparing for future electoral activities.
