Residents of the Adutor Electoral Area in the South Tongu District are urgently appealing for humanitarian assistance after severe flooding displaced families, destroyed homes and left many households struggling to cope with the aftermath.
Victims of the disaster are currently sheltering with relatives, friends and neighbours as they seek support to recover from losses caused by the recent heavy rains that inundated parts of the community.
Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Agbanyo, described the situation as distressing, noting that numerous residents had lost personal belongings and sources of livelihood due to the flooding.
“The situation is heartbreaking as several families have lost their belongings and have been displaced by the floods,” he said, calling on government agencies, corporate organisations, non-governmental groups and individuals to provide relief items and other forms of assistance.
Beyond material support, local authorities are also appealing for temporary accommodation for displaced residents as efforts continue to address the humanitarian situation.
Mr. Agbanyo urged community members and residents outside the affected area who have available space in their homes to offer shelter to flood victims during the recovery period.
He further advised residents to remain alert as the rainy season intensifies, stressing the importance of protecting children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups from potential dangers associated with flooding.
The disaster has renewed concerns about the vulnerability of flood-prone communities and the need for stronger disaster preparedness measures, improved drainage infrastructure and long-term climate resilience strategies.
Affected residents are therefore calling not only for immediate relief interventions but also for sustainable solutions to recurring flooding challenges that continue to threaten lives, homes and livelihoods in the area.
