The Fifty 50 Club has marked its sixth anniversary with a major investment in healthcare and education, commissioning a new maternal and child health facility and awarding a university scholarship to a brilliant but needy student.
The Obuasi-based non-profit organisation spent a total of GH¢214,930 on the two initiatives, representing the largest single-event expenditure undertaken by the Club since its establishment in 2020.
The highlight of the celebration was the commissioning of a fully furnished Maternal and Child Health Centre at the Kyekyewere-Dadwen Community Health Centre in the Adansi North District.
The facility, constructed and equipped at a cost of GH¢205,930, is expected to significantly improve maternal and child healthcare services for residents of the community and surrounding areas.
The project builds on an earlier intervention by the Club, which donated medical equipment worth GH¢35,000 to the same health centre in December 2024 to support healthcare delivery.
In addition to the health infrastructure project, the Club awarded a scholarship package worth GH¢9,000 to Miss Abigail Botaah to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT).
The scholarship covers her first-year tuition, accommodation and other academic expenses, with the Club pledging to sponsor the remaining three years of her programme subject to satisfactory academic performance.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Jacob Edmund-Acquah, President of the Fifty 50 Club, expressed appreciation to members for their commitment and contributions towards the successful implementation of the projects.
He noted that the Club remained committed to improving lives through strategic interventions in healthcare, education and community development.
According to him, the maternal and child health centre forms part of the organisation’s broader vision of supporting healthcare institutions to deliver quality medical services, particularly to vulnerable groups such as women and children.
Mr. Edmund-Acquah also appealed to individuals and corporate organisations to partner with the Club to expand its impact and extend support to more communities and beneficiaries.
Health authorities praised the initiative and described it as a significant contribution to healthcare delivery in the district.
Mr. Franklin Ampofo, Acting Director of Health Services for the Adansi North District, said the new facility would provide a more conducive environment for healthcare professionals and improve access to quality maternal and child health services.
He noted that the project would contribute to better health outcomes for mothers and children while strengthening healthcare infrastructure within the district.
The District Chief Executive for Adansi North, Mr. Charles Ogbeh, also commended the Fifty 50 Club for complementing government efforts in the health sector.
He said private sector and community-based interventions such as the project played an important role in easing pressure on public resources and enabling government to focus on other priority areas.
Since its formation, the Fifty 50 Club, which comprises employees of AngloGold Ashanti, its subsidiaries and other corporate organisations in Ghana and abroad, has implemented a number of social responsibility initiatives.
These include support for life-saving medical treatments, donations of medical equipment to health facilities, educational scholarships for deserving students and assistance to small-scale entrepreneurs and artisans.
The latest interventions underscore the Club’s growing commitment to community development and its efforts to create lasting social impact through investments in health and education.
