Muntaka Defends Secrecy Over Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu’s Detention Location

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has justified the decision not to publicly disclose the specific detention location of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, citing security concerns and the need to protect high-profile inmates.

The Minister’s comments come amid growing calls from some opposition lawmakers for greater transparency regarding the whereabouts of the former MASLOC boss following her conviction in a fraud-related case.

Speaking in an interview on Joy News on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, Mr. Muntaka dismissed suggestions that Tamakloe-Attionu was receiving preferential treatment or being held outside the official prison system.

According to him, the former CEO remains in the custody of the state and is serving her sentence under the supervision of the Ghana Prisons Service.

“From the day she came, she has been with us, and she’s with us, and she’s serving her term,” the Interior Minister stated.

Mr. Muntaka argued that publicly revealing the exact location of high-profile prisoners could expose them to security risks, noting that such information is often treated with caution in many jurisdictions around the world.

“Maybe in Ghana, we take telling people where somebody is serving lightly, because in America and other countries, telling people that this kind of high-profile person is here can even lead to the death of that person. So it’s for safety,” he explained.

The Minister stressed that there was no basis for claims that the convicted former official was being housed in a private facility or enjoying special privileges.

“Trust us, she’s serving her term. She’s not in any private residence. She is with us,” he said.

He further maintained that incarceration is a natural consequence of a custodial sentence and questioned the rationale behind speculation surrounding her detention.

“Was she not sentenced? She was. If she were sentenced, where would she be? You must be in prison custody,” he added.

Mr. Muntaka noted that individuals with legitimate reasons to verify her location or arrange visits could do so through the established procedures of the Ghana Prisons Service.

His remarks are expected to fuel ongoing public and political discussions about transparency, prisoner welfare and security considerations in the management of high-profile inmates within Ghana’s correctional system.
