Selected households in the Ketu North Municipality have received 50 birds each under President John Dramani Mahama’s Akokɔ Nkitinkiti Programme, an initiative aimed at strengthening food security and expanding small-scale poultry farming at the community level.
The distribution, carried out by the Ketu North Municipal Assembly and led by Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Reverend Martin Amenaki, is intended to support families in building sustainable sources of nutrition and income through household poultry production.
According to the MCE, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve livelihoods, promote self-reliance, and enhance local food systems by encouraging residents to engage more actively in small-scale agriculture.
He explained that poultry farming has the potential to provide both nutritional benefits and economic returns, thereby helping to reduce poverty and increase resilience among households.
“The programme is intended to empower households to become more self-reliant while promoting agricultural development at the grassroots level,” Rev. Amenaki said, adding that proper poultry management would be key to the success of the intervention.
He expressed appreciation to President Mahama for introducing what he described as a practical and transformative programme aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary citizens through agriculture-based support.
The MCE urged beneficiaries to take good care of the birds and follow recommended rearing practices to ensure productivity and sustainability.
He also assured residents that the Assembly would continue to roll out initiatives focused on food security, job creation, and agricultural development across the municipality.
Some beneficiaries welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial in addressing household needs amid economic pressures.
They pledged to manage the birds responsibly, noting that the support would help improve nutrition, generate income, and strengthen livelihoods within their communities.
Residents expressed optimism that the programme would contribute meaningfully to local food security and long-term economic stability in the municipality.
