Dream Alive Construction Limited Appeals to IGP Over Alleged Police Misconduct in Akporman Land Dispute

Dream Alive Construction Limited has made a passionate appeal to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Yohuno, over what the company describes as escalating police misconduct and intimidation tactics linked to a protracted land dispute in Akporman.

In an interview, the construction firm, Dream Alive revealed that it had successfully completed the registration of Akporman land, a process it undertook on behalf of the rightful family beneficiaries.

However, the company claims that since the registration, three rival families from the area have resorted to using officers of the Ghana Police Service and suspected land guards to terrorise its workforce.

According to Dream Alive, the affected families have been mobilising armed men—including some in police uniform—to threaten the lives of its workers and disrupt legitimate operations on the registered land.

The firm further alleged that these groups have repeatedly used the police and land guards as tools of intimidation, creating an atmosphere of fear and endangering the safety of its staff.

It will be recalled that Dream Alive Construction Limited successfully registered a total of 543.92 acres of land on behalf of the Akporman family, out of which the family was entitled to 30 per cent of the total acreage as part of the agreed arrangement.

The company maintains that it followed due process in acquiring and registering the land, and that the current actions by the opposing families constitute a blatant abuse of state security apparatus to settle private grievances.

According to Dream Alive, three rival families have enlisted serving police and military personnel, alongside land guards, to intimidate, threaten, and harass its workers in a brazen attempt to seize control of the legitimately acquired property.

But the company’s grievance runs deeper than the current wave of intimidation.

In a disturbing twist, Dream Alive revealed that it had earlier reported the matter to the Regional Police Command, expecting swift justice.

Instead, the firm alleges, the command has dragged its feet. Sources close to the company say suspects who were arrested and found culpable have yet to be prosecuted, with authorities reportedly manoeuvring to delay the legal process rather than pursue the case to its logical conclusion.

“It is as if the system is working against us,” Mr Pappoe indicated. “We did the right thing—we went to court, we obtained judgment, we registered the land. Yet the very people the court ruled against are not only walking free but are being protected by men in uniform while they continue to sell what does not belong to them.”

The company says the family it defeated in court has ignored the judgment entirely and is actively parceling out and selling portions of the 543.92-acre land, using the presence of armed police and military personnel to ward off any challenge.

According to company, the three families and their children are always on its property claiming that it is the court which has given out land but not them. Hence they will not abide by court’s ruling.

Dream Alive insists this is not merely a land dispute anymore, but a test of whether state security institutions can be weaponised by private individuals with impunity.

It will also be recalled that Nii Akpor family, Nii Tetteh Olewolon family, and Nii Numo Mashie family took Boi to court, which they won and subsequently gave it to Mr Enoch Addokwei Pappoe for the registration. But interestingly, all these families as well as Boi are violating the terms of the agreement, by selling the company’s property.

The construction firm is therefore calling on the IGP to urgently investigate the involvement of police personnel in the matter and to bring the perpetrators to justice. Dream Alive emphasised that no worker should have to face death threats while carrying out lawful duties, and urged the police hierarchy to ensure that its officers remain neutral and professional in land-related disputes.
The company thinks if it requires to petition president John Mahama, they are ready to will do that.

As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official response from the Ghana Police Service regarding the allegations.
