Telecel Group is set to intensify investment in Ghana’s telecommunications and digital infrastructure in 2026, positioning the country at the centre of its growth strategy in Africa.

The company’s planned network expansion follows the return of Telecel Ghana to profitability in 2025, which the group says has strengthened its confidence in Ghana’s long-term economic prospects.

Telecel Group Chief Executive Officer, Moh Damush, said the company considers network infrastructure critical to the development of the wider digital economy.

According to him, improved connectivity will support businesses, fintech services and other digital platforms while creating new opportunities for individuals and enterprises.

“Network infrastructure is the backbone of everything we do. It drives enterprise growth, empowers fintech and digital services, and unlocks new opportunities for individuals and businesses alike,” he said.

The 2026 expansion is expected to focus on improving connectivity and extending access to underserved areas, while strengthening the reliability of the network to support services such as digital payments, e-commerce and remote work.

Telecel also plans to deepen its engagement with local businesses and technology ecosystems through the integration of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and cloud services.

The company said its broader approach to Africa’s digital transformation includes mobile and broadband connectivity, enterprise services, fintech, innovation platforms and digital skills development.

Telecel Group said Ghana remains a strategic market because of its growing digital economy, expanding fintech sector, entrepreneurial environment and increasing adoption of technology.

The company’s investment is also expected to support Ghana’s broader digital transformation ambitions, including efforts to expand high-speed internet access and prepare the country for next-generation technologies.

Beyond network expansion, Telecel said it intends to contribute to digital skills development and initiatives aimed at ensuring that more people can participate in the digital economy.

Mr Damush said the company’s long-term objective goes beyond expanding its commercial footprint, stressing that investment in digital infrastructure is essential to unlocking economic opportunities across Ghana and the wider African continent.
