Ghana’s Black Meteors were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Premier League side Vision FC on Friday, August 14, as coach Desmond Ofei continued to fine-tune his squad ahead of the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The friendly, played at the University of Ghana Stadium, formed part of Ofei’s preparations as he assesses the players available to him and works on the tactical approach for the upcoming qualification campaign.
The Black Meteors appeared to be in control after taking a two-goal lead in the second half.
Owusu Agyapong opened the scoring in the 64th minute before Sherrif Alabani doubled Ghana’s advantage six minutes later.
However, Vision FC responded strongly and capitalised on Ghana’s numerical disadvantage after the Black Meteors were reduced to 10 players.
The Premier League side were awarded two penalties and converted both opportunities to complete a comeback and secure a share of the spoils.
Despite surrendering their lead, the encounter provided Ofei with another opportunity to identify areas requiring improvement, particularly in game management and defensive discipline.
The Black Meteors are building towards the 2027 U-23 AFCON, which will be hosted by Egypt in November 2027.
The qualification campaign is expected to gather momentum later this year, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) calendar indicating qualifying rounds during the September and November 2026 FIFA windows.
The exact fixtures are yet to be confirmed by CAF, leaving Ghana with additional time to strengthen the squad and sharpen its tactical preparations before the qualifiers begin.
