The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the resumption of the Ghana Card issuance process, set to begin on Monday, April 7, 2025, at all its District Offices within the Greater Accra Region.
This move comes as part of the NIA’s ongoing efforts to ensure that all eligible Ghanaians are registered and possess the national ID card.
In a press statement released on Sunday, the NIA confirmed that individuals who have been waiting for their Ghana Cards since June 2023 will finally receive them, as the Authority restarts both the printing of the backlog and first-time registrations.
“Applicants who registered for the first issuance, replacement, or updates to their personal records from June 2023 will now be able to collect their cards from the District Offices where they originally applied,” the statement assured.
The NIA also extended an invitation to all Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who have not yet registered for the Ghana Card to visit any District Office within Greater Accra for first-time registration.
Importantly, the Authority emphasized that the process for receiving the printed backlog and first-time registrations will be entirely free of charge. However, they did highlight that services such as card replacements and updates to personal details will incur the usual applicable fees.
The NIA reminded the public that any staff requesting a fee for these services should be reported immediately, reinforcing their commitment to a transparent and efficient process.
In conclusion, the NIA reaffirmed its dedication to providing every eligible Ghanaian with the Ghana Card, underscoring its importance as the nation’s primary form of identification.
