Upper East Regional Hospital Gets Four Nebulizers to Strengthen Emergency Care

The Upper East Regional Hospital has received a major boost to its capacity to manage respiratory emergencies, following the donation of four Omron nebulizer machines by philanthropist and businessman Ebenezer Amoah.

The equipment is expected to help the hospital respond more effectively to patients requiring inhaled medication, particularly those presenting with respiratory conditions at the facility.

The donation is significant because the hospital had only about two nebulizers before receiving the four additional machines, according to its Medical Director, Dr Joseph Kojo Tambil.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the hospital, Dr Tambil described nebulizers as essential equipment that should be readily available in the emergency unit of every hospital.

“So this is a very important donation. It is going to solve one huge gap that we had in our services,” he said.

A nebulizer converts liquid medication into a fine mist that can be inhaled directly into the lungs through a mouthpiece or face mask. It is commonly used in managing respiratory conditions including asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis and severe allergies.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after the donation, Mr Amoah said his decision to support the hospital was motivated partly by his concern for children, who he expected to be among the major beneficiaries of the equipment.

The Accra-based philanthropist and owner of Laroche Logistics Ventures explained that his philanthropic activities had previously focused largely on communities and institutions in Accra until Dr Tambil contacted him to seek assistance for the Upper East Regional Hospital.

“I immediately agreed when Dr Tambil reached out to me to extend support to the Upper East Regional Hospital. I do some of these donations as my appreciation to God for helping my business to grow,” he said.

Mr Amoah said the donation would not be a one-off intervention, assuring the hospital of his willingness to provide further support whenever its leadership identified areas requiring assistance.

Dr Tambil welcomed the intervention, saying the additional machines would help close an important equipment gap and strengthen the hospital’s ability to provide timely care to patients with breathing difficulties.

He expressed appreciation to the donor and prayed for the continued growth of his business to enable him to support more healthcare institutions.

“We thank the company for coming to our assistance. It is our prayer that the good Lord would replenish what was spent, make their business successful so that they can continue to support hospitals, including ours,” he said.

The Medical Director described the donation as the beginning of a “new-found collaboration” between the hospital and the donor, expressing hope that the partnership would continue to improve healthcare outcomes for patients.

He also appealed to individuals, organisations and businesses to support the Upper East Regional Hospital with equipment and other resources as the facility works to strengthen healthcare delivery and fulfil its mandate.
