The Member of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Mr Kofi Arko-Nokoe, has pledged continued support for education in the constituency, with a focus on easing the transition of young people from basic school to Senior High School (SHS).
The MP demonstrated his commitment by donating trunks, mattresses and exercise books to successful candidates of the 2025/2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) who have gained admission to SHS.
The educational materials are intended to reduce the financial pressure on parents preparing their children for secondary education and enable beneficiaries to begin their studies with essential learning and boarding items.
Mr Arko-Nokoe made the presentation during the climax of the annual Kundum Festival of the Nsein Traditional Council and Lower Town Axim.
He said education remained central to the development of communities and pledged to continue providing basic educational inputs to pupils and students across the constituency.
According to him, the government recognises education as a major driver of national development and is committed to improving the quality of education delivered to Ghanaian children.
Beyond providing physical educational materials, Mr Arko-Nokoe said efforts were also being made to preserve the Nzema language by encouraging more young people to pursue its study at tertiary level.
He disclosed that he had partnered with the MPs for Ellembelle and Jomoro to establish a scholarship package for students interested in studying Nzema at Colleges of Education and universities.
The initiative, he explained, is expected to produce trained personnel who would return to schools within the Nzema-speaking area and contribute to efforts to revive and promote the language.
The MP urged pupils and students in the constituency to take their education seriously and make good use of the opportunities available to them.
He also linked education and community development to broader efforts to improve living conditions in the Gwira area.
Mr Arko-Nokoe disclosed that 12 communities in the area were being connected to the national electricity grid as part of efforts to extend development infrastructure to underserved communities.
He said the combination of educational support and improved access to basic infrastructure would contribute to creating better opportunities for residents and help ensure that development reached communities across the constituency.
