Teshie Demolition: Ashong Mletse Family Demands Answers From IGP

…OVER POLICE-LED DEMOLITION OF NDC CHAIRMAN’S BUILDING

The Ashong Mletse Family of Teshie in the Greater Accra Region has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to provide answers over the demolition of a four-unit, two-storey building belonging to former NDC Weija-Gbawe Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Musa Adams, at Mahnet in Teshie.

The family, which describes itself as the allodial owner of a two-acre parcel of land on which the building was being constructed, has questioned the circumstances surrounding the demolition, which it says was carried out by personnel of the Ghana Police Service on Friday, September 18, 2026.

The structure was reportedly pulled down by an excavator in the presence of heavily armed police personnel, believed to be from the Police Anti-Landguard Unit.

According to persons at the scene, the police personnel claimed they were acting on “orders from above”.
The development has triggered renewed concerns over the role of the police in land-related disputes, with the Ashong Mletse Family questioning the alleged involvement of senior police officers in the exercise.

The disputed parcel of land has reportedly been in the possession of Alhaji Musa Adams since 2012.
The land subsequently became the subject of a dispute involving individuals identified as one Kasadjan who is alleged to be backed by the IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

Alhaji Musa Adams claims that despite the dispute and subsequent legal proceedings, he secured favourable court decisions and injunctions in relation to the matter.
He alleges that the situation took a different turn when armed police personnel arrived at the site and supervised the demolition of the building, with claims that they were acting on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police.

Addressing the media at the project site, Head of the Ashong Mletse Family of Teshie, Alex Tetteh Laryea, described the demolition as unlawful and an affront to the family.

He maintained that the family had no knowledge of any competing sale of the land and insisted that Alhaji Musa Adams was the only person it recognised as the legitimate purchaser of the parcel.
The family is consequently demanding clarification on the authority under which the police allegedly supervised the demolition and the circumstances that led to the destruction of the property.

A Traditional Priest of Teshie, Numo Agbey, also questioned the alleged roles of the Inspector-General of Police, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander and the head of the Police Anti-Landguard Unit in the exercise.
He questioned why armed police personnel would undertake the demolition when, according to him, there was no court order authorising the destruction of the building.

Meanwhile, checks at the site following the demolition indicated that construction activity had resumed on portions of the disputed parcel of land.

The Ashong Mletse Family is therefore calling for the matter to be properly investigated and for the appropriate authorities to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the demolition and the alleged involvement of senior police officers.
