Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has summoned the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for an emergency meeting to examine the Black Stars’ troubled start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The meeting, scheduled for Friday, comes after Ghana suffered defeats in their opening two Group C matches, leaving the four-time African champions without a point.
Ghana opened the campaign with a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast before surrendering a two-goal advantage against The Gambia in their second fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars eventually suffered a 4-2 defeat, putting their qualification hopes under immediate pressure.
The poor run was compounded by the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz, who mutually agreed with the GFA to terminate his contract on Thursday, October 1.
Queiroz had been appointed earlier in the year to guide Ghana through the 2027 AFCON qualifiers and the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
With the team now bottom of Group C, Minister Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Buem, has called the GFA leadership to account for the challenges confronting the national team and Ghanaian football.
The discussions are expected to examine the immediate problems facing the Black Stars as well as broader issues within the country’s football administration and development structure.
Ghana is under renewed pressure to avoid another early exit from the continental competition after failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
The Black Stars will next face Somalia in a double-header in October, with both matches scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The fixtures represent Ghana’s next opportunity to revive its qualifying campaign and remain in contention for a place at the 2027 tournament, to be hosted jointly by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
