Four Ghanaian match officials have been handed a major continental assignment for the CAF Champions League first-round encounter between El Merriekh SC Bentiu of South Sudan and Egypt’s Pyramids FC.
The all-Ghanaian officiating team will be led by FIFA referee Charles Benle Bulu, who has been appointed as the centre referee for the fixture.
He will be assisted by Theophilus Aberenga Akugre as Assistant Referee I and Richard Kweku Nartey as Assistant Referee II, while Julian Nii Akwa Nunoo will serve as the Fourth Official.
The match is scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026, at the Juba National Stadium in South Sudan, with kick-off set for 15:30 GMT, equivalent to 13:30 local time.
CAF has also appointed Somalia’s Amir Abdi Hassan as Match Commissioner, with Ethiopia’s Lidya Tafesse Abebe serving as Referee Assessor.
The appointments give the four Ghanaian officials another opportunity to operate at the highest level of African club football and underline the role of Ghanaian referees in CAF’s continental competitions.
Their selection for the Champions League fixture also provides an international platform for Ghana’s officiating fraternity as the competition enters its first-round stage.
