Easter Sunday wasn’t just about remembering the empty tomb for Reverend Atta Okyere, Senior Pastor of City Baptist Church — it was a call to action.
In a heartfelt sermon delivered to a full congregation in Accra, Rev. Okyere urged Christians to go beyond celebration and embrace resurrection living — a life that demonstrates daily the power of Jesus Christ’s victory over sin, death, and despair.
“The resurrection is not a one-day event in history,” he declared. “It’s a living power meant to be seen in how we conquer our struggles, relate to others, and stay hopeful even when life is hard.”
Rev. Okyere laid out a practical framework for living out resurrection power, emphasizing three key areas:
- Victory Over Sin
Believers, he said, have been spiritually reborn through Christ’s death and resurrection. As such, the power that raised Jesus from the dead should empower them to overcome destructive habits, sinful attitudes, and moral compromises.“Righteousness has been imputed to us. We must now walk in it — choosing purity, choosing truth, choosing integrity.”
- Transformation of Relationships and Work
The impact of the resurrection, Rev. Okyere emphasized, should ripple into every relationship and every task — from the home to the office.
He encouraged believers to show excellence, reconciliation, and compassion wherever they are planted.“Our faith must be visible in how we serve others and build our communities. That’s how the world sees Jesus.”
- Hope in Trials
Life’s challenges, he noted, are inevitable. But for Christians, every trial is an opportunity to reveal the strength and hope that only resurrection power can provide.“No life surrendered to Jesus goes to waste. The resurrection guarantees that nothing — not even suffering — is meaningless.”
Rev. Okyere’s message was both a comfort and a charge: Christians must let their lives preach. He encouraged believers to boldly proclaim the gospel not only with words but through visible transformation.
“If Christ is alive in you, the world should see it. Let them see the benefits of what He finished on the cross.”
His Easter message struck a chord with many worshippers, reminding them that the resurrection wasn’t just good news to believe — it was a power to be lived.
