A significant traffic accident at Krofrom in Kumasi has left many injured after a cargo truck spiraled out of control amid heavy rainfall on Friday afternoon.
The incident, which unfolded on the descent from the Krofrom traffic light towards Ashtown, saw the truck crash into several vehicles near the popular X5 Pub. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck’s brakes appeared to fail, sending it careening into oncoming traffic and triggering a chaotic chain reaction.
Several drivers and passengers were trapped in their vehicles, requiring immediate rescue efforts from nearby bystanders and passersby who rushed to pry open the twisted metal to free the trapped occupants.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. However, the exact number of casualties remains unclear as of Friday evening.
The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, urging drivers to exercise greater caution during the rainy season, when road surfaces can become particularly treacherous.
Local authorities have also called for stricter enforcement of road safety measures in the area, which has seen a rise in traffic accidents in recent months.
