In the wake of a severe rainstorm that struck parts of the Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region on Friday, May 9, 2025, Member of Parliament Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, has moved quickly to coordinate relief efforts for affected residents.
The storm, characterized by intense rainfall and strong winds, caused significant destruction, ripping off roofs, toppling trees, and displacing several families. In response, Mr. Bekoe, alongside officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), embarked on a tour of the worst-hit areas to assess the extent of the damage.
During the visit, the MP expressed deep sympathy for those impacted, describing the situation as a “devastating blow” to his constituents.
“I am here not just as your MP, but as a brother who understands the pain and loss many of you are experiencing,” he said, speaking to affected residents.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Mr. Bekoe has called on NADMO to expedite its damage assessment to facilitate a timely and effective response. He stressed the importance of a comprehensive report to ensure that support reaches the most affected families swiftly.
To support the rebuilding effort, Mr. Bekoe has launched the “Help Re-roof Suhum” initiative, a grassroots campaign aimed at mobilizing resources from individuals, non-governmental organizations, and corporate entities to assist in repairing damaged homes and restoring hope to those affected.
The initiative aims to provide immediate relief while also laying the foundation for long-term recovery, with the MP urging all stakeholders to join the effort.
Meanwhile, several affected families have appealed for urgent assistance as they work to recover from the storm’s devastating impact, highlighting the critical need for coordinated support from government agencies and charitable organizations.
