A 33-year-old mobile money vendor, Augustine Mensah, has been shot and killed by unknown assailants at Manso-Asamang in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
According to reports, the deceased had closed his shop for the day on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, but received a call from a customer requesting a transaction. After completing the request, he was attacked and shot on his way home.
A passerby discovered Mensah and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
This incident comes just two weeks after another mobile money vendor, Patricia Nimako, was shot and killed at her shop in Krofrom, Kumasi. However, no arrests have been made in connection with her murder, sparking growing concerns over the safety of mobile money vendors.
The latest killing at Manso-Asamang has left residents in mourning and fear, as they demand swift action from security agencies to curb such violent crimes.
The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into Mensah’s death. Meanwhile, local opinion leader Stephen Agyei confirmed to Citi News that the body has been deposited at St. Martin’s Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
