Ghanaian afro-soul sensation Eldah Naa Abiana Dickson, widely known as Abiana, has transformed personal loss into art with the release of a poignant new single dedicated to mothers worldwide.
The song, a collaboration with Germany-based artiste Souly Bird, is more than just a Mother’s Day anthem. It’s a deeply intimate expression of grief and gratitude, born from Abiana’s enduring love for her late mother, Esther Kofitse Mawusi.
“Losing my mother left a void I never imagined,” Abiana revealed. “This song is my soul speaking the words I didn’t say enough when she was here.”
Infused with francophone undertones and carried by Abiana’s signature silky vocals, the track takes listeners on an emotional journey — celebrating maternal love, sacrifice, and the enduring connection between mother and child.
While Mother’s Day offers the perfect backdrop for the release, the singer sees the song as a timeless tribute. “Every day should be Mother’s Day,” she said. “Their presence, wisdom, and strength shape us more than we realise.”
Abiana, known for weaving personal stories into her music, says the track is also a reminder of how fleeting life can be. “We say ‘thank you’ sometimes, but never enough. I’m hoping this song says what my heart still aches to express,” she added.
The song forms part of her broader mission to use music as a healing force and cultural expression. Her latest EP, Taste of Africa, is already gaining traction internationally, introducing new audiences to Ghana’s rich musical traditions.
With this new release, Abiana not only honours her own mother but uplifts the universal role of motherhood, reminding us all to treasure these figures while we still can.
