An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to four accused persons standing trial over an alleged armed robbery involving jewellery valued at about GH¢2 million at Westlands, Accra.
The accused persons — Musa Abdul Aziz Mamoud (also known as Justin Major Lamar), Donatus Kwame Donkor, Edgar Donkor, and Louis Edem Agbekey — are facing multiple charges including conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, causing unlawful damage, and dishonestly receiving stolen property.
Mamoud, a 34-year-old stock trader, and Donatus Donkor, a 37-year-old carpenter, are accused of leading the attack on Berma Jewellery Shop, while Edgar Donkor, a fashion designer, and Agbekey, a goldsmith, are said to have played roles in handling and disposing of the stolen items. A fifth suspect, Clement Baffour, a gold dealer, is currently at large.
The court, presided over by Emmanuella Sarah Asmah, granted bail to Mamoud, Donatus Donkor and Edgar Donkor in the sum of GH¢2 million each with three sureties, two of whom must justify with landed property within the court’s jurisdiction. They are also required to surrender their passports and Ghana Cards and report to the police every Monday.
Agbekey was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢1 million under similar conditions.
Prosecutors, led by ASP Emmanuel Haligah, told the court that the robbery occurred on April 26, 2025, when the accused persons allegedly attacked the jewellery shop, assaulted a security guard and a sales assistant with a hammer and pepper spray, and made away with gold ornaments.
Investigations, according to the prosecution, were triggered after a complaint was filed with the Criminal Investigations Department, leading to a series of arrests between March and April 2026.
Police say Mamoud was arrested following intelligence operations, with a search of his residence allegedly retrieving masks, a hammer, pepper spray, a toy gun, jewellery items, and gold-processing tools. He is also said to have been captured on CCTV footage during the attack.
Donatus Donkor was later arrested at Osu, where police allegedly retrieved a motorbike believed to have been used in the operation. Edgar Donkor was also arrested after allegedly being linked to the sale of stolen jewellery, while Agbekey was picked up for allegedly receiving and reselling gold items.
The prosecution further told the court that part of the stolen gold was allegedly melted into bars and circulated through a network of buyers before being traced by investigators.
An identification parade reportedly led witnesses to identify Mamoud and Donatus Donkor as the main attackers.
The case has been adjourned to May 28, 2026, as investigations continue and efforts intensify to arrest the remaining suspect.
