A violent domestic altercation in Sowutuom, Accra, has landed a 29-year-old woman in police custody after she allegedly set fire to her former partner’s belongings and stabbed him during a heated confrontation.
According to police reports, Augustina Adoma visited the home of her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old driver Emmanuel Otabil, where she reportedly became agitated upon seeing him with another woman. The situation escalated when Adoma poured water on the couple and took possession of Otabil’s mobile phone before leaving the scene.
Later that day, using a duplicate key, she allegedly gained access to Otabil’s kiosk and deliberately set fire to personal items including a mattress and bedding materials. The tension culminated in an evening confrontation, during which Adoma reportedly stabbed Otabil in the chest with a knife.
Otabil was rushed to several medical facilities, ultimately undergoing emergency surgery at the University of Ghana Medical Centre. He is currently recovering under medical supervision.
Police investigations led to the recovery of the victim’s phone and the arrest of Adoma at Tesano Police Station, where she had attempted to file a separate assault complaint against Otabil.
The Accra Regional Police Command has used the incident to urge the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands, especially in matters involving domestic disputes. They emphasized the importance of utilizing legal channels and peaceful methods to resolve conflicts, warning against the dangers of violent escalation.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to ensure justice and maintain community safety.
