The Greater Accra Region is set to play a key role in Ghana’s digital skills drive following the handover of 2,400 laptops to support the upcoming One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).
The equipment was presented by the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications to the Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, for onward distribution to Members of Parliament across 23 selected constituencies.
The devices will be deployed ahead of Phase One of the OMCP, which is expected to begin on May 4, 2026. The national initiative aims to train one million young Ghanaians in digital and coding skills to improve employability and support innovation in a technology-driven economy.
The programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, led by Samuel Nartey George, as part of efforts to expand digital literacy and strengthen Ghana’s human capital base.
Ms. Ocloo expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for their support, describing the intervention as a major boost for youth development in the region.
She said the initiative would deepen digital inclusion and create opportunities for young people to participate in the global digital economy, while reaffirming government’s commitment to ensuring that no youth is left behind in the country’s digital transformation agenda.
