The Adaklu District Assembly has intensified efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the district, with a number of abandoned and incomplete school projects being targeted for completion.
The projects, which include classroom blocks and teachers’ accommodation, are being undertaken in collaboration with the Minister of Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza.
The Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Jerry Yao Ameko, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday on the sidelines of the commissioning and handing over of a three-unit classroom block at Adaklu Kpatovoe.
He said the Assembly was working to complete abandoned classroom projects at Adaklu Ablornu and Adaklu Vodze, as well as classroom blocks initiated under the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) which had been left at various stages of completion.
The newly completed classroom block at Adaklu Kpatovoe was funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and comprises three classrooms, an office, a store and a staff common room.
Mr Ameko said the Assembly was also constructing new classroom blocks and teachers’ bungalows as part of efforts to eliminate schools operating under trees and address the accommodation challenges confronting teachers in some communities.
He said six-unit teachers’ bungalows were being provided in communities including Adaklu Kodzobi, Adaklu Dawanu, Adaklu Wumenu and Adaklu Kpogadzi.
According to the DCE, the provision of accommodation for teachers within the communities would improve supervision of pupils and increase the amount of time teachers spent with them.
“It will also increase the contact hours of teachers and pupils for effective teaching and learning,” he said.
Mr Ameko stressed that adequate classroom facilities were essential to creating an environment conducive to teaching and learning, particularly in rural communities.
He said improved educational infrastructure would provide children in rural areas with better opportunities to develop their talents and reach their full potential.
The DCE also urged parents to support their children to pursue education to the highest possible level, noting that education offered significant advantages to individuals and communities.
On roads, Mr Ameko appealed to residents to exercise patience over the Adaklu Waya–Adaklu Kpatovoe–Waya road, saying the road would soon be awarded on contract.
He further disclosed that engineers of the Assembly had assessed the incomplete Adaklu Kpatovoe Junior High School block and assured residents that work would soon resume to bring the facility up to the required standard.
