In a stirring demonstration of national solidarity over partisanship, Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin and members of the Minority Caucus have reached out with a GH¢200,000 donation to support victims of the devastating Kantamanto Market fire.
Joined by Minority Whips Frank Annoh-Dompreh and Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the gesture transcends politics and represents a moral duty to support fellow Ghanaians in distress. The team received a rousing welcome from affected traders, many of whom applauded their empathetic intervention.
“We may come from different political divides, but in times like this, compassion must come first,” Afenyo-Markin stated. “This support is not about politics—it’s about people.”
Though acknowledging the funds may not fully replace what traders lost in the inferno, he said it was a step toward helping them rebuild and find hope again. He also called for calm and unity among the traders, warning against politicizing the tragedy.
“Political power is fleeting, but our humanity must be enduring,” he added.
Aikins Boakye Mensah, a spokesperson for the affected traders, expressed profound gratitude and assured that the funds would be properly directed toward helping traders restart their businesses.
This visit marks one of the most significant political solidarities shown since the fire, reminding Ghanaians that unity in adversity still defines the nation’s spirit.
