The Department of Agriculture in Agogo, Asante Akim North Municipality, is urging the government to re-establish a mechanisation centre in the area to support farmers struggling with faulty farm machinery.
Municipal Agricultural Officer, Mr. Osei Bonsu, expressed concern over the absence of such a facility, which previously served as a crucial hub for repairing and maintaining essential farming equipment like tractors, ploughs, and harrows.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Bonsu said the lack of repair services is forcing many farmers to rely on manual labour, slowing down productivity and reducing yields. He emphasized that the situation is especially critical in Asante Akim North, a major food-producing area for crops such as maize, yam, rice, and vegetables.
He added that reviving the mechanisation centre is key to sustaining initiatives like the Feed Ghana Programme and achieving national food security goals.
