Applicants seeking services at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Births and Deaths Registry are urging the government to promptly address the concerns raised by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) to prevent further disruptions.
The call comes after CLOGSAG’s strike action, which began on February 20, 2025, over the political appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Births and Deaths Registrar. Although the strike has since been suspended, allowing the resumption of normal services, applicants are anxious about the possibility of another strike if the underlying issues remain unresolved.
In an interview with Channel One News, several applicants expressed their support for CLOGSAG’s stance, stressing that the government must engage in meaningful negotiations with the association to avoid future disruptions.
One applicant noted, “The government has to meet their demands because they have a legitimate concern. They are questioning the political appointment of the registrar, as they believe the head should be chosen by CLOGSAG, not appointed by the government. It’s important for the government to sit down with them and resolve the matter in accordance with the law.”
Others echoed this sentiment, calling for an impartial and non-politically affiliated appointment to the position of Registrar to ensure the smooth functioning of the registry and prevent further setbacks.
With the dispute still simmering, applicants are hopeful that the government will take swift action to address the concerns of CLOGSAG, ensuring that essential services at the Births and Deaths Registry remain uninterrupted moving forward.
